You know it – Exercise is good for you.  It’s keeps your weight in check, makes you stronger, and keeps you feeling vibrant and youthful.

How about this – Did you know that exercise can also make you a happier person?  Bonus -right?

When you exercise and stay active on a consistent basis – it’s not a sly coincidence that you feel less stressed and anxious, sleep better, and actually feel happier.

Here are 6 Reasons Why Exercise Makes You Happy:

1. Happy Chemicals

When you work out – you activate the brains pleasure circuit.  Exercise may increase your brain’s ability to take up serotonin from your blood and increase dopamine production.  (Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression)

There are several studies out there that suggest that as we age, we lose our stores of dopamine at a faster rate, which might be why we find ourselves seeking out experiences (exercise, eating, and feel good activities) that release dopamine.

The best way to increase dopamine (the “feel good” brain chemical) is to exercise!

We all have those days where we are just too gosh darn tried to exercise – and working out and getting a sweat on is the last thing on our minds.

No matter how exhausted you are – muster up some kickass willpower and get that workout in!  You will most likely feel more energized after your workout than you did before it.

There’s no doubt that regular exercise can increase your confidence.  When you exercise regularly you end up feeling better about your body, and when you feel better about your body, you show up more confidently.
